India Showcases Cybersecurity Prowess to EU Journalists: CERT-In Highlights AI-Driven Defence and Global Partnerships
CERT-In, MeitY & MEA Host Interactive Session for EU Media, Underscoring India’s $20 Billion Cybersecurity Ecosystem

New Delhi, October 29:
The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), today hosted a familiarization visit and interactive session for journalists from the European Union (EU) countries in New Delhi.
The session, chaired by Dr. Sanjay Bahl, Director General, CERT-In and Controller of Certifying Authorities (CCA), highlighted India’s growing leadership in global cybersecurity, powered by over 400 startups and a skilled workforce of 6.5 lakh professionals driving a $20 billion industry.

Dr. Bahl emphasized that Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become a double-edged sword in cybersecurity—empowering both defenders and adversaries. He detailed how CERT-In employs AI-driven analytics and automation to detect and respond to cyber threats in real time while developing countermeasures against AI-enabled attacks.
The visiting journalists were briefed on CERT-In’s crisis management mechanisms, vulnerability assessments, and coordinated incident responses. Dr. Bahl underlined the organization’s role in issuing timely alerts and tailored advisories to safeguard citizens and institutions from emerging threats.
Highlighting international cooperation, he noted that CERT-In and France’s ANSSI recently co-authored a joint risk analysis report on AI, and that India participated in a cyber drill with the European Centre of Excellence for Countering Hybrid Threats. India’s cybersecurity initiatives—such as fortifying cooperative banks and protecting citizens’ devices from malware—were also featured in the World Economic Forum’s Global Cybersecurity Outlook 2025.
Dr. Bahl shared that 147 ransomware incidents were reported in 2024, but prompt and coordinated responses by CERT-In helped mitigate their impact through intelligence sharing and forensic support.
The session concluded with a lively Q&A, where EU journalists engaged on themes of cross-border collaboration, AI governance, and digital trust, reaffirming the shared global commitment to a secure, resilient, and trustworthy digital ecosystem.
