National Launch of Model Youth Gram Sabha (MYGS) on October 30 to Empower Students in Grassroots Democracy

New Delhi: The Ministry of Panchayati Raj, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education (Department of School Education and Literacy) and the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, will jointly launch a first-of-its-kind initiative — the Model Youth Gram Sabha (MYGS) — on 30th October 2025 in New Delhi.

The event will be graced by Prof. S. P. Singh Baghel, Union Minister of State, Ministry of Panchayati Raj and Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, and Shri Durgadas Uikey, Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs.

During the launch, a Training Module on Model Youth Gram Sabha and the MYGS Portal will be unveiled. These digital tools have been designed to ensure effective implementation of the initiative, enhance teacher capacity, and encourage active student participation in grassroots democracy.

The Model Youth Gram Sabha initiative will be rolled out across more than 1,000 schools nationwide, including Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs), Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs), and State Government Schools. The event will witness participation from senior officers of the three Ministries and over 650 delegates, including students, teachers, and elected representatives from the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Haryana, as well as officials from State Panchayati Raj Departments.

A pioneering effort, the Model Youth Gram Sabha (MYGS) aims to strengthen Janbhagidari (people’s participation) and promote participatory local governance by involving students in simulated Gram Sabha sessions.

Aligned with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the initiative seeks to instill democratic values, civic responsibility, and leadership skills among young learners — nurturing a generation of citizens committed to transparency, accountability, and the vision of Viksit Bharat.(PNS)
