India’s Youth Boxers Shine Bright at Asian Youth Games; Felicitated in New Delhi for Historic Feat
PNS Bureau:- India’s rising boxing stars, who delivered the country’s best-ever performance at the 3rd Asian Youth Games in Bahrain, were felicitated in the capital today in a grand ceremony attended by Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju, Boxing Federation of India (BFI) President Ajay Singh, and Secretary General Pramod Kumar.
The Indian youth boxing contingent clinched seven medals — four gold, two silver, and one bronze, marking the highest medal tally by any Indian sporting discipline at the Games. The gold medalists — Khushi Chand (46kg), Ahaana Sharma (50kg), Chandrika Bhoreshi Pujari (54kg), and Anshika (+80kg) — led the charge, while Harnoor Kaur (66kg) and Lanchenba Singh Moibungkhongbam (50kg) took silver and Anant Deshmukh (66kg) added bronze to complete India’s stellar run.
Addressing the young champions, Kiren Rijiju lauded their historic achievement, calling it a “reflection of India’s growing dominance in global sport.” He said,
“Boxing in Asia is among the toughest in the world. Winning medals here shows the immense potential of our youth. With initiatives like Khelo India and Fit India, we are building an ecosystem where every athlete can achieve excellence. Ensuring the socio-economic security of our athletes is our collective responsibility.”
BFI President Ajay Singh hailed the team’s performance as a milestone in Indian boxing history, stating,
“Out of 13 gold medals at the championship, five were won by India — four by our women. This achievement highlights the growing power of Indian boxing. These young athletes are our future Olympians, and we’ll ensure they receive the best training and international exposure.”
India finished No. 1 in women’s boxing, reinforcing its dominance across all levels — from youth to elite competition. The success marks a major step forward in India’s pursuit of Olympic glory and reflects the strength of the nation’s grassroots boxing programs. (PNS)
